Transmission WOES, “Big Time I think” Need help
If you read any of yesterday’s and the day before post of mine about my transmission you now know that I do not have any movement of my wheels forward or reverse. I was thinking I had trouble with my clutch shift arm that goes down vertical next to the transmission and attached to the spline shaft on the transmission. Well a lot has changed since yesterday, I think.
I am enclosing 3 short videos.
- Looking through the inspection hole of the bottom of the transmission, views of the spline shaft hanging in mid air!!.
- Looking at my present clutch shifting shaft or I guess clutch shaft.
- I Looked in my parts shed and found a new clutch assembly I purchased for my original older engine from when I first bought this bus. I believed or couldn’t remember for sure that the newer engine I bought from Ed had a clutch assembly on the transmission / engine.
Anyhow now I am totally disgusted with myself as I think I did the unthinkable, I think I assembled the transmission onto the engine without the clutch assembly in my shed which I guess I needed for Ed Engine. Anyhow in the videos you will see my suspicion as I do not know for sure but I think looking up in the inspection port I should have seen the fingers (6 of them) from the inspection port. THEY ARE NOT VISIBLE and at the end of the splined shaft in the video the end of the shaft is just hanging there in mid air attached to nothing!!!!!!!
Looking at my or Ed’s clutch shifting shaft does not match the photos I posted yesterday of my original clutch shifting shaft having a splined hole but the splines were nearly worn completely off. My new clutch arm must be a newer design than my original. My new clutch arm has a brass bushing all the way through it. The splined transmission shaft measures round from both sides of the bored hole, it measures 1.001 and the shaft measures .998/.999. I feel I do not have a problem there but have to figure out how in hell this all works as the small adjustable arm which also works with the longer clutch arm that has nice splines and a tightening bolt when assembled and an adjustment bolt to adjust the clutch I believe.
I can’t believe I did this but only you guys that have looked up into your transmission inspection port and was able to see the six skinny fingers that are used with the springs of the clutch plate to make the clutch return to neutral when not used. I have no idea but just guessing.
If I have to remove the transmission on the engine as it sits on the bus I have a hell of a job to remove alone, jesus. Anyhow let me know without busting my chops, that I made one hell of an error and I will plan my next move to remove the transmission, hopefully. Thanks ahead of time.
