Generator bay cafe doors

The last post for the day is about my Generator Bay doors and how I made them and how they look all done except for final painting. The enclosed generator bay is shown with the generator in place and the first thing to be done was to make the generator door out of ½” square tube framing for the cafe doors to be used. These doors are covered with sheet metal inside and out with insulation between the doors intended to help minimize generator noise when running. The metal frames were all made and mounted in the generator opening.

At the same time the generator doors were made, a door was made also to go on the old battery compt. Area which I also made louvers for to allow air to be pulled into the generator air bay and into the generator to keep it cool and minimize noise.

I installed a drip edge over all bus doors on the outside of the bus to reduce rain water to get into any compartment. These compartments will also be sealed with rubber gasket material on the inside as well to hit against all doors when closed.

New smooth skin was installed over the generator compt. Area. New locking door handles were fitted to the generator cafe doors and the generator air intake bay. I will call this area the generator air intake bay instead of the old battery compartment. With the cafe doors closed now you get a good idea of my vision for this area. It sure looks good with just primer on it.

Now looking closer you will see how the air from the generator air intake bay goes over the generator and travels toward the back of the generator compartment and hits an angled diffuser that makes it hard for the sound inside to exit the bus through the bottom exhaust port for the generator in the gen. Floor. Sound does not go around corners very well. When the cafe doors are open, you can see the black gasket mounted on the air diffuser that seals the generator compartment when the doors are closed. This forces the air to flow in, over and down to get out of the gen. Compt. I HOPE!!

How about that, a much, much shorter explanation. This takes me so much time. I hope you enjoy it.
