“RUSTLESS MONEY PIT”, 1973 05 Eagle Post #3

These next photos are of my actual left & Right wheel wells framing repairs and reinforcing I did on BOTH L & R wheel wells of course. The pictures from 1st to last are: My busport that has housed my bus for 20 years now with a fence in front to sort of hide all that I am doing and also give me a place to work in inclimate weather at times. I did not have the front enclosed to save $5000 I could use elsewhere on the bus, (at this time I thought). The right side wheel well of the bus before removal of the outer skins to see what is behind them! Photos of how I reinforced the lower horizontal torsilastic framing support with ¼” X 3” angle iron and then seal welded all this framing together to make one solid piece when done. Oh before I forget: So far I have use (24 10lb rolls of .035 mig wire and 200 lbs. Of stick weld wire!!) Thats a lot of welding and metal. Now to continue, you will see where I choose to remove the Rustoleum paint I first used as primer in this wheel well, (Big Mistake) as it started to rust after just sitting there for about 3 years. I had to recoat all these surfaces with Rustbullet and then painted them with 2X strength rustoleum dark gray rattle paint on all surfaces. You will also see my method of reinforcing the bus framing that was not needing replacing 1st by what I call double framing. I did this on the ENTIRE bus as you will see in the following post. Then you will see the finished product of my right wheel well repainted and looking good to me. Now tell me that don’t look pretty? Now you are getting the idea of what I am finding sometimes hidden underneath all that pretty siding? Don’t tell me that mine is the only bus of my this age that is rusting under that siding (2 dissimilar surfaces will rust every time). Ok, now onto the photos.
