Transmission Woos being attacked
Well I can report to those interested in fixing my terrible mistake?? Today I did remove the transmission, not without incident but nothing serious and I did not get hurt is the main thing. I was able to use the transmission jack I bought from HF and I had about 3” more lift to go so I felt confident I could use this jack to remove the tranny. Man you talk about a bear and doing it alone does not help any, I was nervous as hell.
I removed all the bolts but 4 of them opposite each other to hold the transmission in place until I fitted the jack properly and strapped it to the jack for safety. Good thing I did too as I think I was about 3” off center lengthwise on the jack. It puts a lot of strain on the jack, I am sure it is too much but we will see when I have to lift it back up using my ½” drive air gun on the jack gear drive shaft.
When I got the tranny down and moved it to the rear end I believed it would be too tight to put the clutch in and not be cramped for this 77 year old body. So I choose to air up the bus with a remote air compressor I have in the bus for emergencies, Like this. I then removed both the right and left brake cans and secured them safely so they would not fall on me at any time. Then I was able to turn the jack stand and tranny 90 deg. And it fit between the two brake canister brackets perfectly with only about 1” clearance on each end of transmission. This gave me ample room to get into the back of the engine and figure out how in hell I will put in the clutch, that is a heavy SOB too!!
I am including in this post 2 videos as I took a video so that now you guys that told me everything that is missing, well I need your help with the following information below. I do not have a parts list for the transmission assembly so I need the following accurate information.. Please answer if you do with the numbering parts I need to get.
- I Need a copy of the assembly of this area if you have one. If you can scan it into your computer I can get it by email or FB message.
- I have a plastic spline shaft used in alignment of the clutch assembly, I knew I needed this years ago and I remember using it but apparently not on this engine. Perhaps my old one before I sold it?? Not sure, I am really having memory problems getting worse each day it seems.
- I hope if you send a drawing for me to work with it will have a parts list for the
- Pilot bearing part number needed, Is this a regular bearing or what does it look like? I can’t remember the one I thought I worked on.
- How many Bolts are needed and what (What Grade of bolt, their size in Dia, , their length and if they use lock washer or not.)
- Torque value of these assembly bolts.
- What is that 1/16” thick shim used for that is with my new clutch?
I think I am taking the rest of the day off, it is hot, I accomplished a lot alone and my back hurts like the dickens since I lifted up that darn drive shaft, I can hardly walk now so I will lay around the rest of the day and pick up my tools later this evening. I am burned out. .
